The Creately Diagramming experience has now been updated to be compatible with JIRA 6.2.4. With JIRA’s latest version release made on 2ndof May, we have updated the Creately for JIRA plugin compatibility so you can continue using the Creately plugin as you update JIRA.
With this version release, JIRA has fixed some bug fixes which meant users couldn’t update their expired license after upgrading to a later version of JIRA. They have also fixed some minor bugs and done some updates in this version release. You can read the detailed version release note for version 6.2.4
As we mentioned in our previous blog post you can experience the better way of diagramming with Creately in the latest JIRA version. Check out our plugin on the Atlassian Marketplace to enjoy these new features.
You can create your diagrams with Creately for JIRA directly inside the JIRA issue you’re working on. To add a diagram simply click the “More” menu and then the “Add/Edit Creately Diagram” option – the screenshot below shows this.

Diagrams created using Creately for JIRA are embedded directly in the JIRA issue that they relate to and can be easily viewed with a click on the thumbnail.

Each diagram inside your JIRA can be re-edited. Just go through the “More” menu again and you’ll be able to choose an existing diagram to edit or create a new diagram. You can also delete diagrams through the same screens.
Edit/Remove the diagrams
Creately for JIRA is one stop for all your diagramming experience. You can explore the 1000’s of templates in our diagram community directly from within JIRA. Not only that, you can also import Visio documents, stencils and templates related to your issues or projects. The ability to export high resolution images and import and export diagrams as SVG makes your diagramming experience easier than ever before.

This update is important to our OpenID users who use Google OpenID to connect with Creately. Google APIs have changed to use OAuth 2.0 for both authentication and authorization. Creately uses Google OpenID for sign-in and sign-up for those that choose it to connect to Google Apps. Before this update, Creately was using an earlier version of Google OAuth and needed to update to use the latest version of Google OAuth 2.0.
Google Contacts API
The new Google apps listing is only accepting apps which use one or more APIs from a specific set of Google APIs. Creately for Google Apps is now using the Google Contacts API which enables you manage your contacts. This simply means, Creately will use your Gmail contact list to populate Auto-fill contact list in Creately whenever you try to send an invitation or an email notification to another user to collaborate on a diagram. This will help you each time you need to share a diagram/project and/or adding collaborators.
Createlywill also ask for your permission to view,
Basic Information about your account – This will view your name, public profile URL, gender, country, language, time zone and photo.
Know who you are on Google – This request permission to associate you with your public Google profile.
Email address – View the email address associated with your account
Manage your contacts – View and manage your Google contacts
Needless to say we won’t send emails to your contacts without your permission.
One Picture, Two Profiles
Another addition with this update is, users can use their Google Plus profile picture as the Creately profile picture. When you log in, Creately will ask your permission to access your public profile on Google when you sign in and use it as the Creately profile pic. You can check the profile picture under the account section of your Creately account.
With this release you can easily manage your Creately account without any additional effort. There are more benefits you can enjoy in the future. Stay tuned for the latest announcements on our ongoing optimization process.
For a software company like us it is extremely important to have a good demo mode. For most of you it is probably the first interaction you have with our software. As studies have shown you can really improve the conversion rate of your potential customers by having a good demo. As a Creately user you may have tested the application and its features via our demo mode before registering. So we went ahead and made it even more exciting to try Creately.
Improvements for a Great User Experience
We have been testing the demo user experience in real-time to make sure our users get the most out of it. To start with all of us “Experienced the problem” by going through the “Try Creately” experience to really get to grips with the issues.
In this release which we pushed on 1st of April (this is no joke :-)), most of the features in demo user flow and online application are covered. You can see how it has improved according to the experience and feedback.
Hassle free rating and feedback
You can now rate us and send feedback without any hassle with improved in app widget. This flow has streamlined in a way, that it will prompt only once for you to rate or send feedback. Previously the widget was prompted whenever you exit the editor or not rated the app. We had a few requests to make this change and I’m sure it will make lots of users happy.
Connect directly to the editor
Connect directly to the diagram editor and start drawing sooner! Remember the loading page, which asked you to install/check the Flash version when you try to access the editor? We have removed the middle man out of the flow here. You can easily go to the editor right after you login to the app and create your awesome ideas.
Demo mode improvements
If you’re a new user you may have had issues signing up before this release. Obviously that doesn’t help you or us! We have changed the sign up flow for Creately to optimize it so it’s easier and more robust. We have also polished the loading of demo diagrams and messages throughout the demo mode.
With these improvements both Demo users and our registered customers can enjoy a streamlined user experience with Creately application. User experience matters !!! One reason we get so many high user ratings is because we care deeply about user experience. For the last few weeks we’ve been working around the clock to make your Creately experience even better. This is an ongoing process but here’s some important changes from out latest release.
Image Optimization and CSS Adaptation
The story behind the idea is we needed to improve the speed and responsiveness of the Creately website and Creately Online application. We did a lot of research around this, even involving some experts outside Creately for a fresh perspective. We manage to identify some problem areas and already started working on some of them.
The first step of this initiative is to optimize the current images and use the latest CSS techniques to present visuals in a better way. CSS has improved in leaps and bounds and it would be a travesty not to make use of all those latest methods. Image compressing methods has also improved and we saw a significant improvement in our load times and page sizes after these changes were applied.

If you are a frequent Creately user, you should see a considerable improvement in the load times especially in image heavy pages. Once we start to release fixes for other identified areas you should see more improvements across the site.
These changes affect the Creately online app to a certain degree. You’ll see a slight improvement in the app loading time, especially if you’re loading new libraries or loading the app for the first time. You can reach our Help pages, Diagram Community and other pages quicker than before.
