Media groups like Paramount Global, News Corporation, and Endeavor Group Holdings apply the same logic to manage creative businesses with distinct cultures and economics.

What’s striking is how closely government agencies mirror this design. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Homeland Security operate as portfolios of semi-independent agencies, much like diversified conglomerates. Independent regulators such as the SEC, FCC, and NRC reinforce the pattern: centralized oversight paired with delegated execution.

In asset-heavy or regulated industries—energy utilities like Edison International and WEC Energy Group, or financial platforms like Blackstone, Loews, and Markel Group—the holding structure becomes a governance tool.
