What Is a Weisbord Six Box Model?
Weisboard’s six box model is a framework developed by the American analyst, Marvin Weisbord. It’s used to analyze and understand the performance or the functioning of the organization. Those organizational issues that may go unnoticed by the senior management can be identified by using this model. The model is based on six organizational areas to investigate in order to identify where the organization is not functioning properly.
How to Create a Weisbord Six Box Model?
- Purpose: Make sure that the management, as well as the rest of the employees, acknowledge and understand the organizational values, mission, and vision.
- Structure: Look at how the company is organized. Refer to or create an organizational chart to understand the hierarchy, roles, and responsibilities, and the reporting relationships within departments.
- Relationships: Evaluate the quality of relationships between members of the organization (managers and staff), departments, and between individuals and the nature of their work.
- Rewards: What kind of rewards does the organization offer to its employees? Look into how employees are being rewarded and what kind of work is earning them the rewards.
- Leadership: Understand the style of leadership followed in the organization, the main tasks the leaders carry out, and the leadership programs defined by them. Make sure that they are aligned with the overall objectives of the organization and its core values.
- Helpful mechanism: Identify whether the organizational mechanisms in place, help accomplish the objectives, or create a blocker in the path to success.
