What Is a Stakeholder Analysis?

Stakeholder analysis, being the primary step in stakeholder management, is the process where you identify the stakeholders in a project and analyze their needs.

How to Create a Stakeholder Analysis?

  • Using a mind map, identify the stakeholders involved. This includes everyone who is affected by, has an influence over or is interested in your project.
  • Prioritize the stakeholders based on the power and the interest they have on the project. The Power/Interest grid can help you with this.
  • Assign a color to each stakeholder based on their power and interest when you are marking them on the grid for easy analysis.
  • Next comes categorizing your stakeholders. Using an org chart or mind map, you can categorize them based on their importance or hierarchy.
  • While you should focus your efforts on the high priority groups of stakeholders, don’t neglect to provide enough information to low priority stakeholders as well.
  • Examine the interests, motivations, opinions, goals, etc. of the stakeholders. You can directly discuss with them to understand these aspects.
  • Take into account the nature of your relationship with the stakeholders and identify better ways to manage these relationships.
