Guide and Best Practices

An impact map is a visual representation of your goals and the steps you must take to achieve them. It is used to clearly communicate objectives with teammates and build better road maps. Creating an impact map is a fast and visual process where teams collaborate to expose hidden assumptions and document important decisions. It can be used to decide what should be included in your project and plan your next sprint.

How to Conduct an Impact Mapping Session

-Begin by opening the Impact Mapping template on a Creately canvas and invite the key stakeholders to a real-time collaborative session -Impact mapping is broken down into 4 key steps: setting business goals, identifying personas, defining actions and brainstorming deliverables -Begin by listing out your goals. Describe why you are doing this project and what you hope to accomplish -Now link your goals to the ‘actors’ that are involved in achieving this goal. This could include who your customers are, who can come in the way of you reaching your goal, who will be the most affected by your goal etc.
-Now list down the impacts of achieving your goal.think in terms of “Why are we doing this now? What problem does it help a user solve? What business need does it address? -Now you can begin to start thinking about the scope of your project. This can be though of as the deliverables. List down everything you know must be completed in order to achieve your user goals.
