What Is a Value Chain Model?
Value chain consists of various business activities and processes that are involved in performing a business or a service. Value chain model is a strategic analytical and decision-support tool that evaluates each of the business activities in a company’s value chain, which helps to understand the opportunities and improvements.
How to Create a Value Chain Model?
- Identify the scope of the analysis, if it’s the entire organization or a subset of process(es) / product(s).
- Identify activities inside for the given scope, plot these on a value chain model diagram in Creately.
- Invite others who are relevant to this, to collaborate and contribute to the model.
- Identify the value that’s created by each activity. Identify value factors in each activity. Use icons/colors/comments or markers to indicate value factors for each activity.
- Alternatively, create separate detailed flowcharts for each main activity in another set of diagrams and link them to the main diagram.
- Identify what you would like to change in each activity. You can use comments or other sets of shapes to keep track of these visually.
- Identify priorities for the changes you want to make. Pick the easy wins first to increase customer value.
- Include the drawn model in another value chain analysis document with your notes or use the Creately value chain analysis model as the working document while you collaborate with others to implement the plan.
- Embed your value chain model in necessary documents, company wikis or PowerPoint presentations so everyone can easily track the progress.
