1 Click Create Buttons

New Series of Creately Tips and Tricks

Many of you have told us how much you love Creately, and we thank you for all the great feedback you’ve provided over the last couple of months. As we approach our Public Launch, I’ve decided to start a series of short informational posts with tricks and tips that will make Creately even easier to use and demonstrate the richness of features we’ve packed into Creately.

1 Click Create buttons
Our 1 Click Create buttons have been around for sometime now, and they make flow charting and organisational charts an absolute breeze to create. You can find the 1 Click Create button on the contextual toolbar for every object in Creately, and it’s been built with smarts to automatically create the correct type of object depending on the diagram you’re drawing and connect up the shapes.

1 Click Create for Flowcharts
Flowcharts are useful just about everywhere, from the classroom to the boardroom. And although there are a ton of applications that you can use to create flowcharts, we believe Creately offers the best user experience for flow-charting on the web. Here’s a set of images that show you just how easy it is to use.

Choose the type of child shape

Position and place with automatic connectors

1 Click Create for Org Charts
The Click & Create buttons in organizational charts are just as easy to use. Creately automatically places a subordinate shape making it org charts faster than ever. Just click, position and place. No need for extra lines and connectors… neat.

More 1 Click Create
1 Click & Create works just as well for UML, basic shapes or just about any diagram you can create in Creately. Give it a go and let us know how we can make this even better for you.

Hope you enjoyed today’s tip. Come back next week for another smart trick from the makers of Creately.

Post your Diagrams on Twitter

Post Diagrams to Twitter First we brought you URL shortening for your published diagrams, and now we’ve introduced a 1-Click button that makes it easy to share your published diagrams and designs on Twitter.

We Love Twitter

We love Twitter, and we know you do too. So the next time you create a beautiful Mockup you want to share with your other designers, or are working on an open-source project and want to share your UML and DB designs with the community, Twitter provides a great way to reach out instantly to like minded people.

Easy to Use

Visual Collaboration is more than just the diagrams your draw. Here at Creately,we make the whole process of visual collaboration and sharing easy. You’ll find our new Twitter button neatly tucked away in the right-hand Share panel. Simply, select the check box to enable a public short-URL for your diagram and click the “Share on Twitter” button to publish your diagram directly to Twitter.

And if Twitter is not quite your cup of tea, remember you can always invite your friends and co-workers to share and collaborate on your diagrams securely within Creately.

Give it a try, and watch this space… we’re only days away from a spanking new release that we hope will answer some of the feature requests we’ve been getting on our User Support Community. Check it out for a sneak preview of what’s coming your way this week.

Thanks for all the great feedback and for helping us get one step closer to public.

Getting quality feedback for your Startup.

rest_area_croppedIn our efforts to drive conversations with our customers and garner quality feedback, we’ve added a new star ratings page to the Creately.com site. The feedback page appears after a user signs out of the Creately application. The idea behind it is to provide a quick and simple mechanism for users to provide us with feedback - hence the intentional simplicity of the form.

The Challenge

Getting reliable and honest feedback from the user of a web application is one of the hardest things to achieve. I’m sure everyone reading this has received emails from other services, possibly days after the event, asking for their feedback. These surveys suffer from very low response rates. There are many reasons for this. Often when a feedback email arrives in your mailbox, you simply can’t be bothered to change tasks and complete the survey so it’s forgotten about. Or you can’t accurately remember what happened during the event you are being quizzed about. We are trying to combat this survey fatigue and the delay in accessing the user’s experience by providing this simple star rating and feedback box as soon as the user signs out of the application.

Creately Star Ratings

Our star rating system also has several benefits for everyone. Its completely anonymous - so you can write what you honestly feel. And since the user’s star rating is recorded via AJAX as soon as it is chosen, it allows us to gather this basic feedback immediately without waiting for a user to complete and submit the form. This way we still have the star rating to provide us with guidance on our progress here at Creately, even if you get distracted and dont submit the form.

To see the new feedback for you can sign in to Creately, get your diagrams done and then just sign out. If you don’t yet have an account please sign up for a private beta account.

I would also be interested to hear your thoughts on what makes a good user feedback system. We have some more ideas and will be trying them over the coming weeks -keep your eyes peeled.
